Im swamped with work, but yet, I find time to turn to this blog. I simply accept the adage that old habits (i.e. my tendency to deviate from work) die hard.
This afternoon I tried to get some work done - by this, I mean uni work - at the Starbucks down the road, but I ended up compiling a list of things I wanted to visit/experience/do before I leave. This term, I swear, is going much quicker than last term and Im stressed Im not going to do all the things I want to do before I depart. It may not seem like a lot of things considering I have over four months left, but I have to consider it in light of other random and spontaneous things that pop up on the way that I want to delight in and of course uni work. If you want to check out the list, its on the left hand side of this page. I intend to add more things as they come to mind.
This weekend went by like swwooossshhh. The pattern of the last few weekends has been filled with a lots of nothings really - the miscellaneous errand here and there, the occassional going-out, a walk in the park - all of which I forget I had done because they are honestly mundane. I guess thats not the whole picture of my life as I do go out during the week. Last week, I did end up ticking off one of the things-to-do from my 2005 list: tea at Sketch Parlour. I had previously been to Sketch in the evening for drinks at the bar so I wasnt totally impressed when I found their tea parlour is situated in the same room. I do admit though that visiting in the day time is an entirely different experience because you get to really appreciate their retro/victorian decor (if anyone can combine these two themes and create a great effect, Sketch can). I went with two friends and they loved it. I would recommend anyone to go for the experience, albeit an expensive one, for the decor and fine tea. On Thursday night, I went to watch Edward Scissorhand theatre. I enjoyed it tremendously; the costumes and the dancing were brilliant.

Ive made a commitment to spend at least half a day on the weekend doing something cultural (I cant put this word in quotation marks because if I do so, it stuffs my blog up for some reason. hence you will now notice, if you havent already, that my posts are blatantly missing apostrophes. Anyways, I digress). So I started with this weekend. So Jin and I planned to hit City Hall, this magnificant structure built by the acclaimed Norman Foster (notable works include the HSBC building and international airport in Hong Kong, the Gherkin and millenium bridge in London) along the Thames river and Borough market, which I have delayed too long in visiting.

Ill start with the City Hall. There really isnt much to explore inside except to admire the unique design of the building (photos below). More interestingly, was the Sustainable Development (www.earthfromtheair.com) exhibition and gallery going on outside. Borough market turned out to be nothing short of what it is known for - the gourmet food market; on display were the finest of the finest cheeses, wines, breads, olives and so on...at unsurprisingly exorbiant prices. So Jin and I tucked in delicious venison (deer meat) burgers and dark belgian chocolate with walnut brownies (seriously, the best brownie I had - note. and its not from the brownie stand you see in the photo below).

In the evening, I met up with Eric, Dez, Chris and Li (and his friends) for a night out in Angel. We started the night with dinner at Viet Garden. I happily satisfied my craving for vietnamese food, specifically, bun (noodles with grilled meat drenched with sweet chilli fish sauce). Later, we went to the pub and bar/pool-placed called the Elbow Room.
Have a snazzy week!
